About
What is the Mission of Preserve Midtown?
To provide information and advocacy for resident property owners concerning issues affecting their property, neighborhoods and the city of Tulsa.
Who We Are:
Preserve Midtown is a grassroots, non-partisan, volunteer community based organization. We are a resource for resident property owners who are concerned about property development and other issues affecting their neighborhoods. Preserve Midtown believes in competent and fair planning. Land use regulations and rules for health and safety are essential. We care about growth management, protecting the environment and true affordable housing. We are concerned about traffic, infrastructure and escalating costs of housing for all.
Serving on our Board of Directors are Bonnie Henke, Jill Tarbel and Steve Novick.
What are the Objectives of Preserve Midtown?
1. Preserve Midtown wants to stabilize neighborhoods.
2. Preserve Midtown wants to hold the city accountable for protecting the rights of resident property owners.
3. Preserve Midtown wants residential zoning to be amended to reflect the neighborhood it governs.
How does Preserve Midtown suggest these goals be accomplished?
1. Neighborhood stabilization can be accomplished first by a temporary, limited moratorium on teardowns and infill until conservation districts can be adopted.
We can assist in establishing neighborhood associations.
2. Accountability of the city:
The residential demolition and building permits should have a review process to include issues such as water-runoff, impact fees, environmental impact and protection of the urban forest.
Code enforcement should be increased and strengthened.
Fairplay instilled in the processes: homeowners versus developers
3. Neighborhood zoning ordinances should be changed to reflect the neighborhood they govern. While conservation districts will address the issue of non-conforming zoning ordinances for active homeowner associations, the city should provide the zoning tools to protect all resident property owners thereby minimizing the need for civil lawsuits.
Preserve Midtown believes that informed resident property owners can participate more effectively in the upcoming city election cycle and deserve fair and equal representation at all levels of city government.
