Environmental Issues

Careless builders and contractors are polluting our valuable watershed with silt, cement, paint and other trash which leads to flooding and polluted waters.

This costs us taxpayers extra money to unclog our storm sewers and it compromises the health of our water resources.

These builders are breaking the law and need to pay. If you see this in your neighborhood, please call Jack Page, 596-1846 and your city councilor.

PS. Our inspection department is complaint driven. We must do the reporting.

Tulsa needs to continue to expand and maintain our beautiful tree canopy which sets us apart from other cities our size. Please consider becoming a part of the new Citizen Forester volunteer class.  Graduates will become part of a valuable volunteer corps that will plant and maintain trees in parks and other locations, and provide outreach at educational fairs and events.

Energy tax credits are now available for home improvements that increase energy efficiency of your home.  This includes installing new windows, attic insulation, energy efficient applicances, hot water heaters and other improvements.  The tax credit is for improvements made by December 31, 2009, and the homeowner can claim a credit of 30% of the cost of the improvements up to a maximum credit of $1500 (for $5000 in improvements).  The credit does not cover labor expenses to install the new windows or appliances, and there are specific guidelines that must be followed to claim the credit.  Please consult the IRS guidelines for further clarification.

Up With Trees is sponsoring this new program to help all Tulsa County homeowners replace or add a new tree in their front yards.  This is an affordable way to replace one of your ice damaged trees and have help with planting it, if needed.

Environmentally, this is a very good action for all Tulsans.  The trees will provide much needed shade to reduce heat and will help clean the air of damaging carbons.  Keeping our air cleaner makes us all healthier.

PreserveMidtown thinks this is a great program for Tulsa and many thanks to Up With Trees for sponsoring it.  We are very fortunate to have this organization in Tulsa.
